Welcome to Courageous Living Counselling

Where courage meets compassion

Hi I’m Tracy

Reaching out for therapy can feel like one of the hardest first steps. Whether you're feeling anxious, emotionally overwhelmed, disconnected in your relationship or from yourself, I want you to know there is hope.  Sometimes in difficult times, we can feel broken. I do not believe that people are broken.  The ways we cope often make perfect sense when we understand what we've lived through.  My role is to provide a compassionate, collaborative space where you feel safe enough to explore your story, understand yourself more deeply, and begin creating meaningful change.

My Approach

When I was completing my Master's degree, I was introduced to Carl Rogers, the founder of Person Centered Therapy and something about his philosophy to therapy has stayed with me ever since.  He believed that meaningful change can occur in therapy when people experience empathy, genuineness, and unconditional positive regard from the therapist. Therapy was seen as a collaborative and caring relationship and this relationship was the vessel for change.  I strive to emulate this as we sit together in the therapy session, honoring your own inherent wisdom.

In the past 19 year I have worked in both public and private counselling settings and I have been passionate about advancing my knowledge and skills.  I have acquired training in a wide range of evidence based therapies including:  CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) DBT (Dialectical Behavioural Therapy), SFBT (Solution Focused Brief Therapy), Motivational Interviewing, and most recently EFT (Emotion Focused Therapy) and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing).  I pursued these trainings as I continued to see and understand that unprocessed trauma memories get stuck in the nervous system, thus to be better equipped to help my clients, I needed therapies that were specific to trauma and the nervous system.

Thus, at the heart of my practice, is a person centred philosophy.  The therapeutic approaches I use are very important, but they are most effective when built upon a relationship where you feel genuinely seen, accepted, and understood.

"Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a field. I'll meet you there."
